When Mom's Not Looking

So, when Mom's not looking, we like to pull up our step stool and turn on the bathroom light and do the girlie things that girls do. How quickly they learn. Watch out boys, Mommy is never too far behind. :)

Poor Porkchop

It has taken a long time, but Caitlyn has slowly earned Porkchop's trust. It started with petting and then a little bit of tail pulling. And Porkchop has put up with it. But now, when I hear the sad whimper of Porkchop, I know it's not because I'll soon have Caitlyn running toward me with a clump full of fur. No, now it is Caitlyn dragging Porkchop to me, with Porkchops poor legs dragging on the ground but a huge grin from ear to ear on Caitlyn. Porkchop is great with her, and stupid enough to let her do it again and again. Poor Porkchop.

Toddler Bed

So we made the transition. After Caitlyn decided she was too good for her crib, and kept climbing out, Mommy decided to try to switch beds. Surprisingly, she did it without a problem. She loves the fact that she can get in and cover up and then slide right out when she's done. I didn't even have to take toys out of her room. She just stays in her bed and goes to sleep. But only when she knows it's bedtime or naptime. Mommy and Daddy are both extremely proud. Last big hurdle...potty training. Please let me have enough patience for that. :)

Waving To Elmo

As much as I try, Caitlyn doesn't like to wave to anybody. There are only certain circumstances in which a wave is granted. One is to Pat and Vanna on Wheel of Fortune as they walk out. Another is to Mommy as she walks away to do something, usually something she's not supposed to do. The new one, surprisingly, is to Elmo. Now, if we can only spread it to others. :)

Relaxing

As the days go by, Caitlyn gets older and so much seems to change. Today I caught her lounging in Mommy and Daddy's bed with the blankets pulled up and the remote in her hand just watching the TV. So I thought I would take the opportunity to paint my toenails. Of course I couldn't do it alone. Mommy had to paint Caitlyn's toenails too. Even though we both came out with smudged nails, it was so cute. Add that to her loving to put makeup on, and we have a diva girl on our hands. Who would have thought? :)

Watch out Evil Knievel

We have discovered the art of jumping off one object to try to land on another object a foot or more away. Another thing to add to the list of things that make Mommy almost have a heart attack. Luckily, I still haven't had to put the emergency room's number on my speed dial.

It also seems as though our clothes and shoes are shrinking on us faster than we can blink. I took Caitlyn to get her feet measured. Somehow, between April and now, we have went from a 5.5-6 to a size 7-7.5. Yes, you read that right. So, Mommy somehow knew back in April, when I was those size 7 sandals for $3, I had to get them just in case. And was I ever right. We broke them in appropriately by jumping in the rain puddles left behind by the rain we have had for the past week. But, on a brighter note, we have learned to put them on ourselves. That leads her to a false belief that if her shoes are on, that we must leave or play outside. Poor kid is already having dreams crushed. :) And then, as I said, her clothes are also shrinking. I went to Old Navy to check out their sale. When I checked to see what size we wore, we somehow have made it to 2T. We shouldn't be there you say. Haha, that is what Mommy thought. According to their height chart, 2T is 33-36 inches. Perfect. Caitlyn is 34 inches. Then the weight factors in. 2T is 30-33 lbs. Caitlyn is just barely hitting 25 lbs. Mommy hopes for her sake that she stays tall, but unfortunately for Caitlyn, Mommy also notices that she has the cursed Niewiadomski thighs. At least she'll have a nice cushy lap to lay her head in when she is upset over her own. :)

The Avid Reader

Thank goodness Caitlyn picked up Mommy's love of books. She brings Mommy books all day and we sit down and read them. And if Mommy leaves any of her reading material down, she picks it up. I always see those little gears turning inside her little head. Makes me worried sometimes, especially since I'm alone now... :) She's too smart for her own good, and for Mommy's.

Dancing Diva

Mommy tried again. This one she even kisses the camera. Hope you enjoy!!

Dancing Queen

Mommy finally got video proof of some of Caitlyn's dancing skills. And to think this was a tame dance! She loves her music :) Unfortunately, I also think she has been watching Mommy's workout videos a little too much (hence all the marching in place) Can't win them all.

Daddy's Gone :(

Today was the first of many days without Daddy. We kept busy by going to a playdate at Mrs. Lori's house. As always, it was a great time. Just trying to keep busy will be our plans for the next few months, while I try to enjoy the quality time I get alone with Caitlyn. With her getting bigger and smarter and just outright growing up on Mommy, I'm going to enjoy every last moment of it, while still secretly hoping she would stay little forever. :) Daddy calls me a softie, but really, I think I'm just being like any other mom who sees their little baby growing up too quickly. Now I understand my parents. How bittersweet it is.

Flies

Well, Daddy has officially left today. :( We are now starting the tedious wait until he gets home. It is reassuring that this is the last one. Once he gets back, it's time to start looking into the job market and buying a house. Oh, the ideas of being "normal" is exciting enough to make it through this deployment.

So, wondering why this blog is named "flies"? Little Miss Caitlyn is a pretty girlie tomboy. Her knees have so many cuts and bruises, you would think a little creature was beating her with a tiny stick while she slept. Anyway, Daddy and I took Caitlyn to a little hot dog place right by our home for lunch. We decided to eat outside since it was a gorgeous day. As the meal went on, out of nowhere Caitlyn starts screaming. No reason, so it seems. Being smart parents as we are, we check to see if she hurt herself (yes, it can happen even with us 6 inches apart) but low and behold the reason behind this screaming presents itself. It is a small little fly. Not a bee, or cockroach thing that are everywhere around here. Nope, a fly. So we are on high alert to swat this thing away. We finished eating and Daddy went into pay, and as it would happen, the fly shows up again. Caitlyn screams, and the fly moves and lands on her hand, without her knowing. So she is frantically looking around to find it, and then (it seemed to happen in slow-motion) she sees that the monster has landed on her. I'm not sure I have ever heard a scream so blood curdling as this. Hopefully, this phase is shortlived. If not, it looks like we won't be going outside for quite awhile. It could be a very long summer. :)
