Mastering a Fork

The days have come of utensil mastering. Spoon, check. Knife, yeah right. I'm not that crazy. Fork, as of today, I would say check. And it couldn't have started at a better time. I can get Caitlyn to eat so much more, as long as she can stab it with a fork, and as long as she tastes it off of Mommy's plate first, as to make sure it tastes good and isn't poisoned. LOL. Mommy has a mean little trick though. Caitlyn will try to spit food out if it's something she doesn't like or thinks she doesn't like because it's her first time trying it. Catch is, she won't spit it out unless she can spit it out in Mommy's hand. So needless to say, Mommy's hand is not presented, and after about a minute, she gives up and finally eats it. Usually to find out she likes it and wants more. Mother's can be quite tricky, but it's our best gift sometimes. :)

Monkey see, Monkey do

Monkey see, monkey do. That's how the old saying goes. I never knew how true it would be. Caitlyn is the perfect little monkey. She copies things that I never thought should be copied. Like, who knew that if you would do a simple stretch, put on makeup and lotion, or even doing something private in the bathroom, like wipe yourself, that your child would go around immitating that all day. I never thought I would have to explain in public why my child is reaching behind her butt and act like she's wiping it. Guess I have to look at it as if she's learning good habits, right? Either that, or Mommy needs a lot more privacy in the bathroom. Motherhood is all a new learning experience. Let's just hope potty training goes well after all this. :)

Naps

Caitlyn is always a little grumpy when she wakes up from her nap, usually refusing to get out until she is fully awake. We love to burrow our head into the pillow as you can see. :) But now we are just preparing for Daddy to leave. He should be back right before Christmas. A little less than 6 months. We are going to spend as much time together and then he'll fly off to Scotland. Hopefully this time Daddy will take a lot of pictures so we can see the world through his eyes!

Teeth

As Caitlyn's vocabulary builds, it just amazes me how fast it grows. Today, she has figured out how to say 'teeth', and now goes around constantly touching her teeth, Daddy's teeth and Mommy's teeth. Thank goodness we aren't afraid of each other's cooties. :) But, even after all the hours I spend with her and what I do to give in, what's the one word she loves even more than kitty cat. That's right, it's Daddy. Sure, I'm lucky enough to have her sign my name, along with baby and milk, but when do I get to hear Mommy? Only out of anger or when she wants something. Funny how the world works. I mention Daddy, and we go off running to find him and them give him hugs and kisses. I think she is trying to steal him, and of course I know she will. LOL. As the old saying goes, they always become Daddy's little girl. :)

We've been keeping busy getting ready for Daddy to leave. Went to the playground and just played around. It'll be intresting to see the changes that will happen while he's gone. They grow up so fast. We'll just have to wait and see.

Build-A-Bear

We went to Build-A-Bear today. They have this cute feature where you can record your own message and whenever she presses the hand, the message plays. So Daddy left her a little message so when he is gone, she can hear his voice. As of right now, she is scared of it when it talks. Doesn't quite get why the bear sounds like Daddy. But, if you don't remind her, she loves it. Giving into the girlie loving baby doll phase, but what can you do. She's spoiled, but you gotta love her. :)

Flea Market

My version of fun on Saturdays is to go to flea markets and garage sales. Granted I almost never end up getting anything, I still love the thought of finding a great bargain. I had three planned out for today, with the promise to Mike that I would hope to find something to buy. First one, success!! I ended up getting a block wagon and this hippo that picks up the blocks, along with like 50 blocks for only $20. And then at the next one, we found the fake laptop from the late 80s for Caitlyn. She has been carrying it around all day, mimicing every move Daddy makes. I think that is becoming one of her new favorite toys. Such a technology baby! :) Third one was a bust, but 2 out of 3 is much better than I usually do. And as we speak she is eating cookies with Daddy. A perfect day for Caitlyn.

June 20

Today Caitlyn had a playdate and did so great. She loves other kids, especially babies. We now use our babydolls as her babies and she feeds them and of course, when she gets tired, she just hands them off to me. Lol. I added some pictures from our daily walk. Caitlyn just loves to feed the ducks!
We also took her out to Red Lobster for dinner (Daddy was craving seafood). It was the best she has ever done in a restaurant. We officially moved her to a booster seat. She sits so much better in it thinking she's a big girl. And then she had her favorite dessert, ice cream. I still won't let her eat it wearing clothes! :)

Dr Appt

I just wanted to update everyone on Caitlyn's height and weight. I took her for her 18 month appointment, and she is 24 lbs and 33.5 inches long. To put that into terms, that is the average weight of an 18 month old but the average height of a 2 year old. Don't know where she got the height from (although I was a relatively tall kid until I stopped growing), but I hope she beats the short curse! ;)

Swimming

As you can see, Caitlyn is a total water baby. She loves to swim. I take her to the pool and she wears her little arm floaties. Only problem is that she doesn't understand that she has to kick her legs and move her arms to swim. So she just ends up floating there in the water. We'll get there soon.

June 19

Well, I might as well start off with the highlight of her day. Caitlyn got to feed the ducks bread today on our walk. Everytime she would "throw" the bread, it would land 2 inches in front of her. Needless to say, one duck got very impatient, and decided to take the bread from her hand, biting her in the process. No worries, she was fine, but very shaken. So we kept walking and of course, the ducks kept following. She had her own fan group squaking right behind her. Just another day in her world. :)

Trying this out

So, here goes nothing. I decided I would try to keep everyone updated on the status of the munchkin by doing a blog. I can't guarantee it will always be updated, but this is much easier than a scrapbook. I don't have the patience to sit there that long! :)
